The DeltaStream device is a nominal 1.2MW unit which sits on the seabed without the need for a positive anchoring system, generating electricity from three separate horizontal axis turbines mounted on a common frame.
The device will provide a sustainable source of electricity to homes in the city of St Davids during its 12 month demonstration period, starting from 2012.
TEL is advertising for a contractor who will plan, manage and coordinate the deployment, installation and subsequent recovery and decommissioning of the DeltaStream tidal device at the site, 1.2km offshore in Ramsey Sound.
The contract includes manoeuvring and transporting the DeltaStream generator from onshore to the seabed. The DeltaStream unit weighs 300t and consists of a 36m-wide structural steel triangular frame that supports a 15m diameter rotor together with a turbine generator on each of the three corners.
The contractor will also be responsible for laying and connecting 1.2km of subsea cables.
After the 12-month test, the contractor will be responsible for the recovery of the generator and its return to shore.
