The Government has published a document that outlines a number of actions towards achieving a green economy and boosting economic growth in the UK.
Enabling the Transition to a Green Economy: Government and Businesses Working Together outlines a number of planned actions towards achieving a green economy and boosting economic growth in the UK.
The document maps out the Government's plans, through to 2020, in the following areas:
- Climate change.
- Waste prevention.
- Carbon capture and storage.
- Offshore wind generation.
- The Green Deal.
This policy forms the basis for continuing dialogue between the Government and the business community.
The publication cites Government commitments around the actions it will undertake to support businesses and establish the necessity for private sector investment, including:
- promoting international action;
- attracting investment in infrastructure;
- proportionate environmental regulation which minimises the burdens on business; and
- voluntary agreements as an alternative to regulation; and equipping the workforce with the right skills.
