INNOVATION WINS £10,000 GRANT FOR HEREFORDSHIRE BUSINESS

09/11/2010
Based in Pontrilas, Leading Edge are delighted to have accessed an Innovation Networks grant worth £10,000 that will enable them to develop the first small downwind turbine. The blades of the turbine are uniquely designed to make it catch the wind better leading to better performance and a greater capacity to generate energy.

The company was alerted to the grant by the metnet. The grant is available to businesses based in the West Midlands who are looking to innovate and that are collaborating with two support partners to develop an innovative, process, product or service.

Leading Edge will be working with Spintec Metal Spinning based in West Bromwich who will produce the turbine nose cone and AG Machining, based in Telford who will create various other part of the turbine.

James Stoney of Leading Edge Turbines commented:’ This grant has given us a fantastic opportunity to get this project off the ground quickly which is essential if you want to stay ahead of the competition and realise the profit potential of a new product like this. We believe it will have numerous applications from road safety signage to remote data monitoring and even Forward Operating Bases in Afghanistan. It just proves that grants and funding are still available out there if you know where to look for them and metnet has been a great source of new information for us”
